A fragrant wooden shoulder bag to cherish.
This unique shoulder bag, called the Hinoki Attaché Case Élue, is the result of collaboration between woodworking artisans in Shizuoka and leather craftsmen in Nagano, Japan. It is handcrafted from two natural materials:
-
Hinoki (Japanese cypress): a highly prized wood in Japan, traditionally used in temples, shrines, and baths for its pleasant fragrance, smooth texture, and durability. For this bag, the Hinoki wood is not painted or coated; it is only carefully polished, allowing you to enjoy its natural scent and texture.
-
Premium cowhide leather (vegetable-tanned leather): a top-quality leather that ages beautifully over time, developing a rich amber patina with use.
Both the wood and the leather change in color and character the more you use the bag, making each piece truly personal and unique.
This product is made to order by Japanese artisans and reflects the tradition of fine craftsmanship combined with contemporary design.

About us
Woodcraft Kobayashi is based in Shizuoka City, Japan, and specializes in furniture and interior design using Okushizu Hinoki, a type of Japanese cypress grown in the mountains of Shizuoka. The founder began working with Hinoki over 20 years ago after crafting a table from driftwood found in a nearby river. Since then, the workshop has dedicated itself to using local, sustainable wood—including thinned timber from forest management.
Hinoki has been revered in Japan since ancient times as a “sacred wood” often used in shrines and temples. For this reason, Kobayashi finishes Hinoki products without paint or varnish, relying solely on careful polishing to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Their philosophy is to create bags and furniture that allow you to enjoy the touch, fragrance, and natural transformation of Hinoki as it ages.
