Crafted in Japan by skilled artisans, it combines the warmth of natural wood with a dignified, traditional cane silhouette. One spare rubber tip is included.
Zelkova Wood and Spiral Carving Design
Zelkova is one of Japan's representative hardwoods, valued for its beautiful grain and solid texture. The large, sweeping curved handle gives the stick the presence of a traditional walking cane, while the spiral carving adds subtle design beauty rather than flashy ornament. Delicate shadows created by the carving change with the angle of light and viewing position, enhancing the flow of the grain and the smooth luster of the wood. Not overly decorative, yet distinctly different from a plain cane.
Japanese Craftsmanship - About 20 Finishing Steps
Few makers still produce wooden walking sticks from start to finish. Here, skilled craftsmen work each stick through approximately 20 steps, from selecting the raw timber to bending, carving, dyeing, painting and final finishing. The wood is naturally dried for over a year and a half, and each zelkova blank is chosen by the craftsman's eye. The number and intensity of coats are adjusted to the weather and to the character of each piece of wood, and hand-applied dye painting brings out the grain. The surface is finished with urethane coating for everyday durability.
