This is the finest first-grade tea from Uji, Kyoto, one of the most famous tea-producing areas in Japan.
Uji-Tawaracho is located in the southern part of Kyoto Prefecture, where traditions are still alive. It is also famous as the town of Nagatani Soen, the inventor of the sencha method in the Edo period. The tea plantations are located near the mountainous road where Ieyasu Tokugawa made his Iga-goe (crossing over Iga).
We dared to select the highest quality sencha, not matcha or gyokuro. This sencha has a strong flavor of mellow theanine.

To commemorate the 450th anniversary of our tea master Kuroda Kyubei, who has been with us since the first year of Tensho, we have selected top-grade tea leaves from representative tea-producing regions to make this top-grade sencha. The production area is Uji, Kyoto, one of the most traditional and representative areas in Japan. Mino Shirakawa, the highest elevation, Omi Asamiya, the oldest tea production area, and Shizuoka Kakegawa, the largest production area in Japan. Kyoto Uji will be exhibited this year.

  • The highest quality tea leaves from Uji-Tawara in Kyoto, one of Japan's leading tea-producing regions and the birthplace of modern sencha green tea, are used.
  • It is grown in healthy organic soil and is rich in theanine, which gives it its delicious flavor.
