Brand Story

Bringing Japan’s Timeless Aesthetic to Life
Every sheet of Yuzen Washi paper embodies Japan’s traditional worldview, infusing even a simple folded crane with beauty and elegance.

About Yuzen Washi
Yuzen Washi features patterns inspired by Yuzen dyeing, an art form dating back to Japan’s Edo period (1603–1868). During this time, extravagant clothing embellishments such as gold and silver embroidery were banned under the Sumptuary Laws. In response, artisans developed Yuzen dyeing, which replaced embroidery with intricate, painted designs that mimicked the luxurious appearance of traditional fabrics.

The vibrant and sophisticated patterns of Yuzen dyeing quickly gained popularity among the common people. The term "Yuzen" is said to have been named after Miyazaki Yuzensai, a prominent artist who created many beloved designs.

Yuzen Washi paper preserves this cultural heritage, combining vivid colors with intricate, painterly patterns to create a timeless connection to Japan’s artistic traditions.

This comprehensive explanation introduces both the product and its cultural significance, making it accessible to foreign customers unfamiliar with Japanese traditions.
