Build Japan's next-generation maritime patrol aircraft with this highly detailed 1/144 scale model kit of the JMSDF P-1.
Developed as the successor to the P-3C Orion anti-submarine patrol aircraft, the Kawasaki P-1 made its first flight in September 2007 and entered operational service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) in 2013.
The P-1 is notable for being the world's first production aircraft to employ a fly-by-light flight control system, using optical fiber technology instead of conventional electrical signal transmission to reduce electromagnetic interference. It was specifically designed for maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare missions and features advanced acoustic detection systems, radar technology, and surveillance capabilities for locating submarines and monitoring maritime activity.
Today, the aircraft is operated from Atsugi Air Base and Kanoya Air Base, while also serving as a training platform for pilots and flight crews at Shimofusa Air Base.
