Unlike mass-produced items, each pair is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans in Kahoku Town, Japan, a region with over 50 years of history in slipper production. The thong (hanao) design has ancient roots: its origins can be traced back to the waraji and zori sandals that became popular during the Heian period, over 1,000 years ago.
Natural Tatami Insole Benefits
Like the thong, the insole uses traditional Japanese tatami matting. Made from natural rush grass rather than inexpensive synthetic imitations, it offers superior moisture absorption and breathability, along with deodorizing and antibacterial properties, keeping feet fresh and cool even on the hottest days.
