Tradition+Modernity. In Japan, there are many traditional crafts using ancient Japanese designs and techniques. We incorporate these traditional designs and crafts in our lampshades.
We are developing lighting equipment that creates a fantastic healing space by blending tradition with the latest electronics technology.
Our goal is to provide peace of mind and a richer residential lifestyle through unique displays of light. To that end, we have developed a lighting device that creates an optical effect with artistic and craft touches.
Features
Material: Stainless steel*Awarded in a selection of Japan's best 100 items (TAKUMI NEXT) selection by JETRO in 2019 and 2020.
This is a craft lighting fixture for use indoors that features the historic patterns and motifs of Ise katagami stencils, applied on metal here as a lampshade.
The historic and delicate patterns and beauty of Ise katagami stencils are faithfully reproduced in metal for a decorative lampshade, and this pattern is projected into a room as a form of shadow play.
We reproduced various motifs on metal plates using a unique metal processing methodology.
Our Story
This lighting device consists of an illuminating element in which a single source of light supported by the light fixture itself emits light from the top to the bottom of the fixture, and the emitted light reflects off of the interior, uneven surface, while partially open slots throughout the unit also serve to illuminate at discrete intervals.
The fixture diffracts scattered light reflected across the uneven internal surface, and together with the brilliance of the diffracted light on the main body, a fixed amount of patterned light creates unique silhouettes on the bottom and sides.
