Description
Feature
The variety of Kumano rice is “Hikari Shinseiki”. This rice has short stalks and grows in the rugged nature of Kumano, which was once known as an unexplored region, and is full of vitality. Thanks to this, the taste is sweet and glossy. It's sticky and can be enjoyed even when it's cold. Cultivated using the power of plums.
Our Story
"The ""Kumano Rice Project"" is an agriculture-industry collaboration project that promotes ""local production for local consumption"" and ""local production for other consumption"" by growing new varieties suited to Kumano's climate and new cultivation methods using plums.
With the cooperation of the Prefectural Agricultural Experiment Station, the ume seasoning liquid that had previously been discarded can be reused, and the local umeboshi association also cooperated in creating a recycling-oriented agricultural system that utilizes this ume. This is truly a win-win situation.
With the support of the Tanabe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we were certified as an agricultural, commerce and industry collaboration in 2010, and also certified as a sixth industry in 2014. We will promote SDGS initiatives such as giving back to the mountains of Kumano, cultivating saplings to protect the mountains of Kumano together with related parties, and planting trees."
