Compared to other varieties, this rice has a softer, chewier texture with more resilience and sweetness, and it tastes delicious even when cold. It is offered as an offering at the Kumano Sanzan (Three Grand Shines of Kumano).

Our Story
The Kumano Rice Project embodies a collaboration between agriculture and industry, championing the mantra of "local production for local consumption." By cultivating a new rice variant tailored to Kumano's climate and employing a novel method that uses plums, this initiative is a beacon of innovation. Collaborating with the Prefectural Agricultural Experimentation Station, we've found a use for the previously discarded plum seasoning solution. The local umeboshi (pickled plum) cooperative also plays a vital role in this eco-conscious agricultural model centered on plums. This synergy truly benefits all involved parties. Backed by the Tanabe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we were recognized as an agricultural-industrial partnership in 2010 and achieved the 6th industrialization certification in 2014. We remain dedicated to preserving Kumano's mountains, planting saplings, and championing sustainable practices alongside our partners.
