Description

Shiina Kiriko Sakura Saku is a handmade Japanese cut glass (kiriko) sake cup in which cherry blossoms appear to bloom the moment you pour sake. Made in Japan from double-layered overlay glass, it is a striking gift for sake lovers and collectors of Japanese glassware.

Cherry Blossoms That Bloom Inside the Glass

When sake is poured in, the pattern engraved on the bottom of the glass is reflected onto the sides and opens out into a full cherry blossom scene - a magical effect found only in Shiina Kiriko.
A light blue base is layered with pink glass known as "kin-aka" (golden red) to form a double-layered overlay glass that expresses cherry blossoms in full bloom. This colored overlay glass is a custom order of the same type widely used for Edo Kiriko cut glass.

The Meaning of the Sakura Motif

In the Japanese language of flowers, cherry blossoms stand for spiritual beauty, graceful womanhood and purity.

Three Sizes of Japanese Sake Glass

  • Guinomi - the classic small sake cup size, ideal for drinking sake
  • Large - a generous size that suits everyday use
  • Kataguchi - a lipped pourer, good for sake or as a serving dish alongside food

Paulownia Gift Box Packaging

Each piece is delivered wrapped in a dedicated paulownia wood box, together with the original paper bag that is popular for gift-giving.

Handmade Craft Note

Because every piece is handmade by artisans, small air bubbles or striations may appear inside the glass. Please understand this in advance.
