Description
Handmade Copper Bonsai Watering Can - Long Spout, Size No.6
This handmade Japanese copper watering can (joro) with an extra-long spout is built for bonsai care, delivering a soft, rain-like shower that waters the tree without disturbing the surface of the soil.
The Maker's Philosophy
The maker believes that the ideal way for a watering can to water is to imitate rain. Just as rain was essential for life to appear on Earth, a bonsai - a miniature world expressed on a tray - also needs rain to be created for it artificially.
Bonsai documents handed down from the Edo period record that rainwater was scattered over trees using a ladle. The watering cans made here work the same way: like a ladle, they scoop rainwater from a jar of stored water and let it fall as rain over the tree.
Why a Copper Watering Can for Bonsai
- Long-spout (sao-naga) design that reaches the back of a shelf or the far side of a display bench without leaning over the tree.
- Copper body that develops a deeper, richer patina the longer it is used - a tool that matures alongside the bonsai.
- Handmade by a Japanese craftsman in the traditional joro form.
- Size No.6, the larger long-spout model, suited to regular watering of a bonsai collection.
Care and Handling
Empty the can after use and let it dry so water does not sit inside. Copper naturally changes colour over time; wipe it with a soft dry cloth to keep the surface clean. Handle the spout carefully, as it is long and slender.
