Description
“Momongcar” is a charming wooden pull toy inspired by the Ezo flying squirrel of Hokkaido, Japan. The name is a playful combination of “Momonga” (Japanese flying squirrel) and “car.”
In the culture of the Ainu, the Indigenous people of Hokkaido, the Ezo flying squirrel was called “Akkamuy,” meaning a guardian spirit for children. This toy is designed around that gentle and protective image, turning the beloved forest animal into a warm, friendly character for little ones.
To ensure safety for babies who may lick, chew, or put toys in their mouths, the wood is carefully crafted from Hokkaido-grown Sen wood and left completely unpainted and uncoated. The toy is finished in natural, untreated wood so children can safely experience the authentic texture and warmth of the material.
As children play, small scratches and marks will naturally appear on the surface. Over time, these signs of use become treasured memories of childhood.
The attached string can be removed. When your child is still very young, the string can be detached, and the toy can be shaken by hand to enjoy the gentle rattling sound made by the wheels. As your child grows and begins to stand and walk, you can reattach the string and use it as a traditional pull toy.
Crafted from a combination of Sen, oak, and black walnut, this toy showcases beautiful natural wood tones and grain variations. Each piece is unique due to the use of real wood.
